The Field is a one-roll bet looking for a 2, 3, ,4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. The fact that it's a one roll bet makes it a little less appealing. Making a Place bet is a better investment of your money.
There are a lot of numbers in the Field but don’t be fooled, out of 36 possible rolls 16 are in there and 20 are not.
|3, 4, 9, 10, 11||1:1||3, 4, 9, 10, 11||Any other #|
|2 or 12||2:1||2 or 12|
The Field is a self-service bet meaning that you must take care of it yourself. If you want to make a Field bet you do not have to tell the dealer, all you have to do is put the money in there. Self-service also means that it is your responsibility to know where your money is. If you are not paying attention to your money then there is a chance someone else can pick it up and claim it as there own.
The Field Pays even money if the 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 are rolled. If the 2 or 12 rolls, it usually pays double. In some casinos either the 2 or 12, never both, will pay triple.
I don't see many players betting for the dealers in the Field but if you do, we'd be sure to appreciate it. If a bet less than the table minimum is in the Field then it is assumed to be for the dealers.
